Webinar: Hand Hygiene Improvement in Long Term Care: A Journey Worth Taking | AL & SNF

Sponsored by GOJO Industries, Inc. and McKesson, a WHCA Associate Business Partner.

Thursday, January 28, 2021

COURSE OVERVIEW

Many residents face challenges with compromised immune systems due to the natural aging process, comorbidities, medications and other factors.  A significant shift in health care delivery from acute care, inpatient settings to skilled nursing within long term care (LTC) has led to an increase in the medical complexity of residents and with it the increased use of invasive devices. These factors are only a few of the critical elements that have positioned residents of LTC as our most vulnerable population in healthcare settings. For this reason, infection prevention programs are a major focus of LTC, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) mandate that infection prevention programs include hand hygiene practices. Infection prevention professionals recognize the importance of hand hygiene; however, LTC facilities face unique challenges that can be frustrating and often dampen enthusiasm and forestall sustained improvement efforts.

This session will provide foundational hand hygiene education and debunk myths that often impede progress. We will also review strategies to align with CMS expectations, discuss barriers that get in the way of meeting those expectations and share tools that can be used for effective change.
